Ernesto's Taqueria offers a straightforward, no-frills Mexican dining experience rooted in the South Fort Worth neighborhood it calls home. Located on Hemphill Street, this casual spot draws locals who appreciate traditional Latin American flavors without the fuss that can come with trendier taquerias. The atmosphere is unpretentious, often accompanied by familiar sounds like a guitar player adding a relaxed, community vibe that feels like a local gathering more than a typical restaurant.

The menu leans heavily into hearty, meat-focused dishes — think generous portions of carnitas, asada, barbacoa, and pastor. Burritos and tacos are the go-to orders here, clearly loaded rather than skimpy, making it an ideal stop if you’re looking for a filling meal without a premium price tag. Weekend visits might even score you a bowl of menudo soup, which is a special treat that resonates with those seeking authentic homestyle Mexican comfort food. Breakfast options are modest but fresh, with burritos and plates that satisfy early risers or those in need of a substantial, dependable start to their day.

One distinctive feature is their BYOB policy, which helps keep the atmosphere casual and accessible, especially for groups looking to enjoy a meal with a drink of their choice. Service tends to be friendly and straightforward, with familiar faces behind the counter who move efficiently even during busier times. A lunchtime visit usually means no long waits, and the spot is equally approachable for solo diners, families, and small groups alike.

Ernesto's is best visited when you want a genuine taste of Fort Worth’s Mexican food scene that’s rooted in local traditions rather than hype. It’s especially well-suited for those who prioritize hearty portions and unapologetically meaty dishes in a laid-back setting where neighborhood feels like family.

Authentic Mexican tacos, best I've had in Fort Worth. The burritos are huge and delicious. Tacos or burritos, they aren't skimpy with the meat. They don't sell alcohol but you can BYOB!

My go to are the Puerco en Verde burrito and the brisket burrito. Some of the best, puerco en verde you'll can get. With the burritos, they always give me a little side of grilled onions. They would get five stars if they brought back the jalapenos toriados back. They used to make them and provide them with your meal but they no longer do the jalapenos.

Came back today and I want to give it another star. Great place all around, still love it! One of the best Mexican restaurants around, hands down. I've been coming to this location occasionally for at least 10 years and it never disappoints. My mom, myself, and my son came in today around 2pm. There was no wait and we got greeted immediately. We ordered 2 plate burritos of green chile pork, 2 barbacoa tacos, 2 large aguas frescas & one small for my son. Total was about $42 before tip. The food was amazing! 10/10 recommend, if you're in the area, make sure to stop by! It is cash only so make sure to come prepared .
